Wales' U20 Women travelled to Hong Kong in August to compete in the World Championship. Facing tough competition from 20 nations, Wales retained their world ranking of 7th that had been secured in Canada in 2019.
Wales had a difficult opening match against Canada, but then secured three straight wins to finish second in the group. Having defeated Chinese Taipei and Korea, the final group match against Haudenosaunee was a winner-takes-all affair for a place in the quarter-finals. In a tense match, Wales managed to hold off the North Americans to advanced to the play-offs.
In the last 8 they faced Australia in monsoon conditions and fought back bravely from a slow start, but it was not enough to prevent an 11-5 defeat. There followed a further defeat to the Puerto Rico side full of US players, before the final match against Italy for 7th position. Another anxious battle was won by sheer determination and effort, releasing a huge wave of emotion at the final whistle and capping a tremendous tournament for the team.
