Wales' Senior Women travelled to Braga, Portugal in July for the European Lacrosse Federation's Continental Championship. Hosted every four years, this tournament also serves as a qualifier for the next World Championship, which will be held in Japan in 2026.
Wales came into the tournament with a couple of key players missing through long-term injuries and faced some challenging adversity in the tournament logistics, but the team pulled together brilliantly. After victories in the group stages against Sweden and Spain, Wales faced a tricky match-up with the Netherlands to reach the last 8, but a tremendous performance took them through 9-4 and into a showdown against Ireland.
Relishing their position as the underdogs, Wales turned in a masterful display against the Irish to win 10-8 and secure a semi-final place. Defeat to Israel in the semi was no disgrace and the team had hopes of a Bronze medal finish, but in the end they narrowly lost out on third place after suffering a tight 9-7 defeat to Scotland.
However, the consolation was that their fighting spirit had secured fourth place and with it their ticket to Japan in two years' time.
